Anyone
that tells you that art is 'important', is either applying for a
grant, reading a fortune cookie, indulging in egotistical fantasies
or trying to sell you something. Yes, it is necessary for art to
exist, but mostly to the artist.
You
will never see me apply for a government grant. If you like my artwork,
then by all means buy it, but your tax dollars will never go into
my pockets or my projects. I firmly believe that all patrons of
the arts should be private individuals, and that the responsibility
of supporting the arts should fall only on the shoulders of those
who truly appreciate it.

RETAIL
DOODLINGS
I recently ran across some doodling I did while working retail.
Thanks to the magic of Photoshop (well, the Amish have denounced
it as magic anyways), I'm restoring these sketches over the course
of the next few weeks and posting them here for your parusal.

THE
LADY IN WHITE
Those of you from Buffalo's Elmwood Strip area will no doubt recognize
The Lady In White, a woman of urban legend whose story grows more
mysterious with each new telling. I had an English teacher in
high school tell me that she was the priestess of a cult, and
had to wear white to protect herself from the evils of the world.
I also read an article by Chris Riordan in The
BEAST which claims her dress is revenge on a past
lover, who left her for a white woman. Still others claim it's
just simple germophobia. Whatever her story may be, she was the
subject of a painting I did during the Music Is Art 2004 CD Release
Party. That painting is now hanging in the Buffalo living quarters
of Robby
Takac, guitarist for The
Goo Goo Dolls, and he recently posted
this photograph of the painting on his MySpace page. |

CARTOONS BY Z. MANN ZILLA NOTE:
These were all work for hire, most are not safe for work
or school, and I don't necessarily stand behind the subject
matter. Also, "Trippin'" takes you to another website,
but don't worry, it should open in another window.
